Learn the tips and tricks of the trade from industry professionals and walk away with a reel that truly captures YOU on a professional level.
Over two days, dancers will dive into content creation, from understanding what makes a great reel to shooting, editing, and presenting professional work. Participants will learn GALLIM repertory to perform on camera, get hands-on experience filming and editing their own content, and receive personalized feedback from GALLIM on their reel following the program.
Whether you're building your first reel or leveling up your existing one, this lab gives you the tools, the material, and the eye to make your work stand out.

CLASS DESCRIPTIONS
INtro to Filming - Reel overview, filming Practices
Observe examples of dynamic reels & dance on camera scenes, discuss basic filming and editing techniques, learn about best filming practices on an iPhone and other digital cameras. Discussing what makes an effective reel from prospective colleges, employers or panels will be a part of the conversation too!
GALLIM Methods
Get ready to move! GALLIM Methods is a movement technique training which practices Andrea Miller’s movement philosophy and creative methodology through a guided conversation between the body's network of systems and the imagination. Through a combination of guided improvisation and focused exercises, the class brings nuanced attention to regions of the body, its availability for movement, range, coordination, texture, and creative expression in relationship to the rest of the body and its experience within space, time, music, and art.

Film yourself doing the Rep!
Film yourself and fellow dancers in studio, honing your skills in front of and behind the camera.
Film your Improv
Receive improvisation coaching and guidance on best practices when filming your improv.
Editing Class
This workshop will cover iMovie and Premiere Pro editing basics including importing footage, creating a sequence, labeling, cutting, simple fx, creating titles, color correction, export settings, and more. Before the workshop students will receive a link to download a Premiere Pro trial should they wish.
Edit your reel & Share and feedback
Complete your reel with mentorship and editing assistance, using your existing dance footage and what you have filmed during the workshop. Share your reel with the group for feedback. Following the program participants can send their reel to GALLIM and receive personalized feedback on their brand new reel!
PROGRAM LEADER
ASHLI BICKFORD is a cinematographer specializing in capturing movement as a form of storytelling. With over thirteen years of experience working with leading dance companies and cultural institutions around the world, her work centers on revealing the artistry, impact, and humanity behind performance and the creative process. Some of her credits include filming for the PBS series Next at the Kennedy Center, Finding Your Roots, PS Dance: The Next Generation, live directing concerts for Summer for the City at Lincoln Center, and creating films for leading dance organizations such as Alvin Ailey Dance Foundation, New York LIve Arts, New York City Center, Jacob’s Pillow Dance Festival, Dance Theater of Harlem and many more.
WHAT TO BRING
Filming device: this can be a phone or digital camera
Editing device & software: laptop. We will be working with iMovie and Premiere ProLaptop to edit (a free trial link will be sent out for Premiere pro).
Existing footage: Any dance footage you want to include in your reel. Have this pre downloaded and ready to include in your edit.
Your outfit of choice for filming yourself dancing!

EMERGENT ARTIST SCHOLARSHIP
The Emergent Artist Scholarship is a full merit based award given to artists of the global majority (including but not limited to Black and African American, Asian, Hispanic and Latino/a/x, Native Hawaiian or Other Pacific Islander, American Indian, or Alaska Native, Middle Eastern or North African, and multiracial) to support their emerging or established dance training and/or career.
We will be awarding one for this program. All participants with scholarship applications under review will have a place held for them in the intensive until scholarships are awarded. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis until September 7th.
WORK-STUDY SCHOLARSHIP
The Work-Study Scholarship is a full-ride scholarship in exchange for operational support and administrative assistance, before, during, and after the intensive. This opportunity is designed for students with an interest in social media, arts administration, and day-to-day operations. This scholarship will include on-site responsibilities.
We will be awarding one for this program. All participants with scholarship applications under review will have a place held for them in the intensive until scholarships are awarded. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis until September 7th.

GALLIM Methods & Repertory Faculty
Jasmine Alisca (she/her) is a dancer from Las Vegas, Nevada who started her dance training at a young age in ballet, jazz, tap, and contemporary. She then graduated from Las Vegas Academy of the Arts and carried on to SUNY Purchase College where she just finished her third year as a dance major with a concentration in composition. At SUNY Purchase College, she has been able to train in many forms of modern dance techniques such as Graham, Cunningham, Limon, DOVA, and Horton. Jasmine has also been able to perform works by Jie-hung Connie Shiau, Loni Landon, Andrea Miller, and Jenn Freeman.
CHOREOGRAPHY BY
ANDREA MILLER is a choreographer, creative director, and founder of the internationally renowned multidisciplinary organization GALLIM. A Hispanic creator and collaborator for dance, film, fashion, and the visual arts, Miller is known for her exploration of the essential elements of human behavior and the alchemy of movement and performance. Miller is a Guggenheim, Sadler's Wells, New York City Center, and Princess Grace Fellow, and was featured in Forbes as an entrepreneur and leader in the dance world. She is the first choreographer to be named Artist in Residence at The Metropolitan Museum of Art, creating two large scale works for The Temple of Dendur and the fifth floor of The Met Breuer. Her visual art collaborations include a sound, sculpture, and performance installation for Lincoln Center processing the pandemic as well as collaboration with visual artist Antony Gormley at White Cube, Phyllida Barlow with ENB and works for The Glass House, Art Basel, Frieze Festival, Grace Farms, and Grand Central Station.
Miller’s dance works are presented by leading institutions and festivals around the world including Lincoln Center, Kennedy Center, City Center, The Joyce, Jacob’s Pillow, BAM, Royal Albert Hall, Sadler's Wells, London Royal Opera House, Théâtre National de Chaillot, Teatre Grec of Barcelona, Theaterhaus Stuttgart, Canal Madrid, Teatro Nacional de Panamá, DanceHouse Vancouver, Spoleto Festival, and others.
Recent dance commissions include English National Ballet, New York City Ballet, Martha Graham Dance Company, Bern Ballet, TanzLuzern, Noord Nederland Dans, Pennsylvania Ballet, A.I.M by Kyle Abraham, Rambert2, NDT2, Ailey II, and The Juilliard School.
Film collaborations include celebrated directors Ariel Schulman and Henry Joost, Xavier Dolan, Ezra Hurwitz, Bat-Sheva Guez, and long time collaborator Ben Stamper.
Her collaborations in fashion and brands include multiple collaborations with Hermès as well as VOGUE, Bergdorf and Goodman, SportsMax, KSwiss, Lacoste, Target, Calvin Klein, Crate & Barrel, SLS Hotels Miami and Las Vegas, and Beautiful Destinations. Miller serves on the board of Chelsea Factory and The Doris Humphrey Foundation.
Miller’s repertory, creative methodology and dance training have been taught through the GALLIM School of Movement as well as The Juilliard School, NYU, UC Kaufman, Harvard, Barnard, Marymount Manhattan, and others. She has been Adjunct Professor at Marymount Manhattan College and Barnard, and guest faculty at The Juilliard School, where she is an alumna.
