GALLIM IN THE STUDIO
Gallim remains committed to cultivating and supporting young artists, and our extended dance community. In 2020 The move to a virtual studio has enabled us to connect with students and artists across the world.
Happy Hour features luminaries in the dance world. These FREE, informal conversations hosted by Andrea Miller, and in 2020, Northrop Auditorium at the University of Minnesota, addressed the questions that usually go un-asked in a panel setting. In a shifting dance landscape we’ve asked about evolving creative processes and the role of artists in the current moment.
Thank you to all of our 2020 HAPPY HOUR guests!
“I feel like I have a greater understanding of what choreography/improv can be, including the emotional tones and the creation of a world.”
“Love that this week is about process, not geared towards a performance (but still addresses performance). Love the amount of material—not too much that it’s overwhelming but enough to feel like there’re lots of opportunities to work with it.”
“It has been such a rejuvenating, refreshing, and enlightening experience. I feel like the information I have gained will stay with me in and out of the studio, helping me to become a sensitive being in possession of a delicate power.”
GALLIM’s educational programming expanded in 2020, connecting to our community through:
Winter Intensive
Repertoire Extension
Virtual Summer Intensive
Masterclasses with Andrea Miller at NYU Gallatin, and Northrop at the University of Minnesota
a FREE virtual class for VOTERS
the development of a corporate offsite program coaching nonprofessional artists in new approaches to creativity. We were asked to lead the staff of 100 people “from operational to inspirational”. By the end we had them dancing the Macarena and telling us they had experienced “a paradigm shift.”
Coming in early 2021 - Virtual Winter Intensive: “Dancing with the Camera,” a week-long intensive dive into dance filmmaking with GALLIM’s Artistic Director Andrea Miller, filmmaker Ben Stamper, GALLIM creative associate Emily Terndrup, and guest artists from the dance-film industry.
