Values Manifesto

COLLABORATION

Pursuing work that honors diversity, inclusion, equity and access is the path to meaningful art.

MOVEMENT

Everything we do is movement-based; it is the vehicle for our expression and reveals things we otherwise do not have access to. It is the most direct channel to each being’s complexity and uniqueness, and ultimately leads to freedom.

CREATIVE PROCESS

We honor the making of what did not exist before. When art is happening, the process is the work, the work is the process.

INQUIRY & SEARCH FOR MEANING

Asking questions, embracing the speed of learning feeds our search for meaning. Inquiry can face inwards or outwards, and ultimately has flow. It rejects formula and logic; it does not conform to the laws of this world; rather, through alchemy, it provides the chance for transcendence.

INTERDISCIPLINARITY

Art is not defined by a single genre. It draws on different inspirations and finds its own medium, its own combustion. “Inter” cross-pollinates forms; we are “disciplined” in our commitment to deep rigor and expertise.

DIVERSITY Equity and inclusion

GALLIM is committed to actively and intentionally operating as an anti-bias, anti-racist institution. As such, we promote policies, practices, and programs that work to dismantle systemic racism. We know art is a powerful instrument for social justice. It is a means for people to share history, culture, and perspectives, celebrate differences, challenge assumptions, and find common ground. GALLIM is dedicated to advancing anti-bias, anti-racism work as we grow. We understand that this work is an iterative journey. We will continue to evolve our strategies in collaboration with our communities to remain relevant and impactful
