  • NOTE FROM THE DIRECTOR:
  • Dear fellow artists,

The GALLIM Moving Artist Residencies are two programs created by artists for artists, focused on untethered artistic explorations without expectations of a final product. Artists in the U.S. who have been systematically excluded from dominant systems, often operate within an institutional chokehold to both “represent” a community, and to “produce” a commodifiable product. As an anti-disciplinary queer, Latin American female artist, who has been a caregiver, and working within oppressive U.S. governing systems & extractive infrastructures, I have found it difficult to surrender to my own boundless process. This residency aims to carve out a safe & autonomous exploratory space for historically un-supported moving artists with no other intention but creative sovereignty.

Additionally, the program aims to dismantle all traditional notions of "moving artists," and capture the multi-dimensional, & nuanced nature of our field. I am incredibly inspired and moved by past resident artists who are forging an unapologetically authentic landscape.

I understand first hand the free labor that comes with applying to programs like this one with no guarantee of compensation. As a way to counteract this, all applicants of either GALLIM Moving Artist programs will receive a free 2hr hands-on workshop providing them a game-changing arsenal of feedback, new writing skills, & funding resources to tangibly support their future practice.

I look forward to reviewing your submissions for both GALLIM Moving Artist Residency programs! Much love,
